Legal Advice

I’m going to rely on the legal knowledge of the masses on this one…

All of the emails I’ve received from the Lang Michener guys has this paragraph in the footer:

This message is intended for the addressees only. It may contain confidential or privileged information. No rights to privilege have been waived. Any copying, retransmittal, taking of action in reliance on, or other use of the information in this communication by persons other than the addressees is prohibited. If you have received this message in error, please reply to the sender by e-mail and delete or destroy all copies of this message.

If I read that correctly, there’s nothing there preventing me from publishing the contents of those emails, since I’m the addressee…  Am I right?

    I’ve been told that the best that those disclaimers are more of a request, than a requirement.

    They have chosen to email you, but at no point have you consented to make the contents of the email private. You should have the right to show the document to anyone you wish, as you may require legal advice on how to handle their demands.

    …then again I’m not a lawyer.

    If I walk into a bank and hand over a note demanding all the money, but included an addendum stating that the note, and all actions pertaining to the note are privy to only the recipient, then she has no choice but to confess that she handed over the money by her own free will, otherwise I can sue her…
